Soufiane Touzani built one of the earliest internationally-viral football careers to come out of the Maghreb diaspora. The Dutch-Moroccan freestyler and presenter from Rotterdam went global in 2008, when a tricks video he posted to YouTube took off, pulled in millions of views, and caught the eye of Electronic Arts for FIFA Street.

The clip turned into a career. Touzani performed around the world, built a following on the strength of pure ball control, and in 2011 opened the Touzani School academy in Rotterdam to coach the next generation. He is proof that a kid with a football and a camera, working from the diaspora, could reach the game’s biggest stages long before the creator economy had a name.
